Here, we offer several primula and auricula collections. Each collection consists of flowering sized plants supplied ready for planting or potting (auriculas) right now. We also highlight individual primulas that we think you will love.


Auricula starter collection, X 6 varieties, plus printed labels

A starter collection for the novice auricula grower. (or for those who wish to revive their interest in these wondrous plants). 6 plants included in the collection.

Here we offer 6 flowering sized plants. This is a lovely collection giving a wide range of colours and types of auricula. We do not think you will be disappointed with our selection.

NEW: You will also receive a free fact sheet giving really useful hints and tips about how to treat your auriculas upon arrival.

Varieties selected are of easy culture and will provide a floriferous display each springtime. They are all suitable for display in an auricula theatre, cold greenhouse/conservatory.

Each plant comes with a printed stick-in label with name and other details and will last for years for future reference.

Please note that the plants illustrated here are for guidance only; actual varieties may vary from these, but an equally good range of colours and types will be selected.

Plants are supplied with a rootball ready for potting;excess compost has been carefully removed from the rootball in preparation for you to pot into fresh compost. This is the best way to ensure vigorous growth and they will flower the next season.

9 - plant Candelabra Primula collection # 1

9 X Candelabra Primula plants, garden ready and of flowering size.

Candelabra Primulas are amongst some of the most beautiful classic garden plants. There are many species and even more hybrids and varieties.  All are clump forming and spread by self sown seedlings. The flowers are carried in numerous whorls up strong stems and have a very exotic appearance, but they are all extremely hardy standing many degrees of frost. They have a long flowering season across the range of types offered here extending from late April to the end of June.  Flowering heights range from 60cm (2 feet) to 100 cm (3 feet).  All are tolerant of very heavy wet soils. They associate well with other familiar plants such as Astilbe and Hosta.

Many primulas are tolerant of very wet heavy sticky soils - This candelabra selection will grow well in wet or damp woodland. Also around the edge of ponds and streams.

Plants supplied may vary to those illustrated, but each one will be different, named and labelled. All plants supplied are of mature flowering size. All plants are supplied without compost (compost removed or reduced) thus saving on postage costs. Plants are garden ready for planting or potting.

A candelabra. This is a stunning candelabra which never disappoints. Plants are supplied with a rootball, compost reduced (i.e. bare-root), coming out of 6cm pots. Athough they may appear small just now they are perfect for planting immediatley.

Primula bulleyana subsp. beesiana (more usually referred to as Primula beesiana) This is a perennial candelabra Primula of outstanding garden merit. Having been grown for over 100 years this species has a proven track record. It is very hardy and establishes itself as a strong clump. A fantastic candelabra for the June garden performing well in all soils that remain moist.

Alpine collection #1

European hybrid alpines - Alpine primulas give enormous delight. They are the earliest primula group often flowering from January. February and March is the main flowering period. European hybrid primulas flower at about 10 to 15 cm (4 to 6 inches). Most need cold glasshouse or cold frame culture.

Here we have made a selection for you. Consisting of 9 named varieties. The varieties we will choose have similar colours to those illustrated. Plants supplied bare root and are of flowering size. We simply remove from pot shake off the excess loose compost and they are ready for potting. Each plant comes with a hand written label showing the name of the variety.

8 X Plant - Summer Scented Primula Collection

8 X Plant - Summer Scented Primula Collection.

This is a collection of exotic scented primulas, from various parts of Asia. They belong to the Sikkimensis group and hail from the Himalayas, Tibet and Sikkim. They are extremely hardy and make wonderful garden plants, well suited to our conditions.

The flowering timescale across this range of primulas offered is from May to late July.

The flowering height ranges from 60 to 100cm (2’to 3’) depending on type.

They make an awesome impact in the garden when planted in mass groupings, and the photographs show what you can expect.

The plants selected for the collection will include Primula sikkimensis, florindae (and varieties), and alpicola (and varieties); 8 Plants in total supplied in their 7cm pots ready for planting out in your garden.

No special soil preparation is required. Just choose a spot in your garden where the soil never dries out and the plants can enjoy some dappled shade. Pop them in and ensure they get enough water during establishment. If you can add some garden compost during planting this will help if your soil is prone to drying out.

The plants supplied are of flowering size and within the next few weeks (it is now 1st May 2020) and you can enjoy their beauty and fragrance.

Bog garden collection # 1

Many primulas are tolerant of very wet heavy sticky soils - This selection will grow well in wet or damp woodland. The selection here range in height from 45 cm (18") to 100 cm (3ft). All of them prefer a cool position and dappled light.

Here we offer our selection of 9 primulas suitable for the bog garden. Each will be a named type and labelled accordingly. The plants will be similar to those illustrated in the item image. Plants supplied ex. pots with rootball prepared and ready for planting and are of mature flowering size.

Primula japonica Carminea

Primula japonica and its many forms are essential plants for the spring bog garden or wet woodland. Flowering time is May and height at its peak is 60cm (2 feet). A very typical candelabra Primula it has stunning whorled tiers of beautiful magenta pink flowers standing majestically above striking mid-green luxuriant foliage. Primula pulverulenta is an easy and popular early flowering candelabra of large proportions; it flowers at a height of 100cm (3 feet) during late April through May.
