They have a long flowering season across the range of types extending from late April to the end of July.  Flowering heights range from 30cm (1 foot) to 100 cm (3 feet).  Many are tolerant of very heavy wet soils. They associate well with other familiar plants such as Astilbe and Hosta.

Harlow Carr Hybrids are selections which have been in cultivation for a very long time.  The colours are pastel and beautiful; plants supplied may vary compared with those illustrated here but we are certain you will not be disappointed. These hybrids flower in May into June.

All plants supplied are of flowering size and posted bare-root, without compost or pot.

This eastern Sino-Himalayan species is a hardy evergreen perennial candelabra introduce in 1912. It is an attractive popular clump forming garden plant and the large leaves give it a roughly rugose appearance. A large clump will carry dozens of flower stems of about 90cm (3 feet) tall, each with up to 7 whorls of very bright golden yellow slightly pendant flowers during May and into June. Primula prolifera will self-seed in situations that are cool and damp and therefore extend the group. It contrasts beautifully with Primula beesiana. A moisture retentive nutritious soil and a cool situation are ideal. It is an easy plant to grow. Plants are of flowering size and supplied bare-root. The image shows the unopened whorls of flowers.

Candelabra primulas are amongst some of the most beautiful garden plants. There are many species and even more hybrids. This hybrid candelabra is one of Peninsula Primulas’ own selected seedlings. It came about as a chance seedling in our nursery, it was selected and propagated. Now we can offer it, but we never have many plants available. We have selected this plant for its vigorous features; once established it will grow and extent the group quite easily. The flowering period is May into June. It is attractive to pollinating insects. All the candelabra hybrids are tolerant of wet soils but will also be happy in a moisture retentive soil that never dries out. Some dappled shade allows the flowers to last longer. Plants supplied are mature flowering sized bare-root and ready for planting.
