This eastern Sino-Himalayan species is a hardy evergreen perennial candelabra introduce in 1912. It is an attractive popular clump forming garden plant and the large leaves give it a roughly rugose appearance. A large clump will carry dozens of flower stems of about 90cm (3 feet) tall, each with up to 7 whorls of very bright golden yellow slightly pendant flowers during May and into June. Primula prolifera will self-seed in situations that are cool and damp and therefore extend the group. It contrasts beautifully with Primula beesiana. A moisture retentive nutritious soil and a cool situation are ideal. It is an easy plant to grow. Plants are of flowering size and supplied bare-root. The image shows the unopened whorls of flowers.
