Show varieties are very beautiful and have a wide range of colours and patterns of flower. They all have farina (meal) covering their flowers and leaves - a most attractive feature. They are grown in a cold greenhouse or other covered structure during spring.

Here we have made a selection for you. Consisting of 4 named varieties. The varieties we will choose have similar features to those illustrated. Plants supplied bare root and are of flowering size. We simply remove from pot shake off the excess loose compost and they are ready for potting or planting. Each plant comes with a hand written label showing the name of the variety.

Collection of Drumstick primroses - a range of colours as illustrated

Here we offer 9 X plants of this easy to grow garden primula. It flowers vary early, in fact can be in flower in late winter, but provides a wonderful spring display. It assorts well with primroses and polyanthus. Completely hardy, will withstand temperatures down to minus 15 celsius, afterall it does hail from the Himalayas.

It is just as good in pots and planters as it is in the garden. Beds and borders are enhanced by this primula. It is a deciduous species and flowers at about 1 foot tall (30cm)

Primula denticulata is the most accommodating plant becasue it grows just about anywhere. When the soil is continually moist it will grow in full sun. Usually it is best to give it a position in dappled light. The strain on offer is called Nepalese Mixture, reminiscent of its Himalayan origins. It is a common plant on the damp grassy meadows of the Himalayan landscape.

Plants are supplied ex. pots with a rootball ready for planting in the garden or if you wish into containers. You will not be disappointed with the plants supplied as they are coming into flower in the next few weeks (it is now 5th January 2021)

This item consists of one plant of each of the three British native primulas illustrated, i.e. vulgaris (top), veris (left) and elatior. (3 plants in total)

A primrose by a river's brim ..... The wild or native primrose (Primula vulgaris) grows naturally and in abundance in woods, hedgerows and banks throughout the UK. This gives a clue as to where you should grow it in cultivation. Plants are supplied bare-root and are mature flowering size.

Primula veris is the common cowslip. An easy going perennial naturally found in damp open pastures but will grow in a wide range of garden habitats.

Primula elatior, the oxlip has beautiful nodding bright yellow flowers on stems 30 cm (1 foot) tall are produced from March to April depending on season and locality.

Plants are supplied bare-root and are of mature flowering size; they will flower next season.

It thrives in cool humid situations such as stream sides, edges of ponds and damp hollows. It will spread by self sown seedlings when conditions remain moist thereby extending the groups quite naturally. The sweetly scented perfume from the flowers is carried around the garden on cool still June evenings. The flowering stem will reach a height of 40 – 50 cm (16 to 20 inches). Primula alpicola will assort well with other moisture loving plants such as Astilbe.
