Candelabra collection (Primula japonica) 8 distinct varieties

Product no.: 283

Here I offer a collection of 8 varieties of the world famous Primula japonica. Plants supplied are of mature flowering size and will flower next season. Plants are supplied without compost to reduce weight thus saving postage cost.

A Japanese import some 130 years ago, Primula japonica is a classic garden plant of easy culture. A very typical candelabra Primula it has striking whorled tiers of rich coloured flowers standing majestically above striking mid-green luxuriant foliage. This collection has 8 distinct colours. It is very tolerant of the wettest heavy soils; in fact it will thrive under such conditions. Flowering time is May and height at its peak is 60cm (2 feet). Being the earliest of the candelabras to flower (late April to May) it brings a welcome cheer to the spring bog garden. Primula japonica forms a large clump which is easily divided and will self seed all around given damp dappled conditions. It will grow in full light in the bog garden but given some dappled shade will grow in most situations where the soil remains moist at all times. The offer is for 8 different (japonica varieties) mature flowering sized plants sent bare-root (compost partially removed).

8 X plant Scented collection, Primula florindae

Product no.: 4[1]

Primula florindae collection. 8 plants of mixed colour. We cannot be certain as to the colour of each plant but the picture shows the range of colours.

Primula florindae or the Giant Himalayan Cowslip is a magnificent plant. It is of huge stature flowering at a height of 100cm (3½ feet) and extremely long lived; up to 20 years being noted by many. The best conditions are a rich moist fertile soil where it has a chance to develop its gigantic proportions; huge numbers of strongly scented flowers can be enjoyed during June and July, this being the latest Primula to flower in the garden. It can also naturalise in a damp situation but in this regard is best suited to a big garden. When conditions are not so damp Primula florindae still grows but all of its parts are reduced in size; but still producing masses of scented flowers.

Add fragrance to your garden. A magnificant plant from the Himalayas with the most delightful scent. Easy to grow. Plants supplied root-balled ex pots ready for planting or potting.
